Maestro Ilaiyaraaja Live In Kuala Lumpur : Keeping The Promise Alive

By Huumessh Gunaseelan.

1st October 2022 would definitely be a date to remember as the Indian musical legend, Isaingani Ilaiyaraaja is putting up one of the biggest musical shows in Malaysia. Despite conducting a musical extravaganza, "Maestro Ilaiyaraaja Live in Kuala Lumpur" holds a special interest in most people's hearts as it's finally happening after being postponed for nearly 2 years due to the pandemic. Special thanks to Mojo Project Sdn Bhd and Ilaiyaraaja sir for keeping their promises alive.

Standing on the sixth year of producing concerts, Mojo Project is set to blast a remarkable musical experience for the spectators by conducting a four-hour-long live concert with a fifty-member musical ensemble including popular playback singers such as SBP Charan, Anitha Karthigeyan, Madhu Balakrishnan, Karthik, Yugendran Vasudevan, Shweta Mohan, and Mukesh.

The concert is set to be held in MITEC (Malaysian International Trade & Exhibition Centre) expecting a crowd of nearly 8,000 spectators. The ticket purchasing is still open and people can certainly get the tickets at www.excitix.com.my or contact 012-2000505 for more ticketing information.

"Rather than taking this only as our work or task, this concert is more of a fanboy dream to bring the  Maestro itself to bless us with his evergreen and soulful compositions," said Mojo Projects chief executive officer, Ratna Kumar Nadarajan. Mr.Ratna was moved a little while delivering his speech during the press conference which reminds us of the amount of struggles and hard times he went through over the last 2 years of the pandemic till finally making this happen. It was a short and productive press conference which was honored by the presence of YB M. Saravanan, Ilaiyaaraja sir, and Mojo Projects CEO Mr.Ratna Kumar Nadarajan

Overall, it is understood that we can definitely expect a concert that is going to recreate nearly five decades worth of musical memories one night. It is already a proven fact that Ilaiyaraaja sir always has kept to his promises, so wait for the magic to be witnessed tomorrow!

“YUVAN 25”, HEALED THE BROKEN, WOKE THE SLEEPING SOULS.

By Tanesha Thanaseelan.

Again, for the second time, Yuvan Shankar Raja did not fail in giving a memorable night to his lovely fans. Yuvan Live in Malaysia on the 16th of July 2022 at Axiata Arena was nothing short of spectacular. Many forgot what blinking meant during his opening act. I could not take my eyes off the stage. Every true Yuvan supporter would understand this feeling.

“I think I am in love with you,” said Yuvan, and continued with “Ithu kathala, Mudhal Kathala.” That is when the crowd lost control. Honestly, I cannot count the number of times the crowd lost control. Can I just say everyone was vibing along throughout the concert?

The entire team gave us their best. When Yuvan sang, “Thimiruku maru peyar neethaanae, Thinam thinam unnaal iranthenae, Maranthida matum maranthenae” sadness invaded a home in my heart until Vijay Yesudas switched my emotions with his, “Amma ennum mandiramae, Aghilam yaavum aalkiradhae.” I wonder how many souls were resurrected that night. As they say, music kills and also heals.

The sensational musician and his entire team did not only melt thousands of hearts with their songs but also left an unforgettable night with a remarkable live performance. A live performance is always more soulful. The medley was truly magical; “Poi sole intha manasuku theriyavilai, sonal poi poi thane.”

Andrea brought pleasure to all ears with her “Idhu Varai” song from the movie Goa. Without a doubt, she looked stunning and made our hearts throb in our chests. The astonishing singer also got the crowd dancing to the “Rowdy Baby” song at the end.

To add to the highlight, our very own talented Malaysian artists rocked the stage to keep everyone entertained for the first hour of the concert. Darkkey’s performance went viral on social media. His entry was massive and the crowd went wild for his popular Tamil rock songs, “Adiva Adiva” and “Akamage”. Also, Siddarth who gave his best with “Thende Thende” and “Naala Paattu”. Our Mannin Mainthargals have never failed in leaving us speechless.

Malik Streams had invited us a few hours before the concert for a brief press conference with the admirable Yuvan Shankar Raja, who was interviewed by Maduran from our side.

Maduran:

“After the announcement of Yuvan 25, a show was conducted in Tamil Nadu by Black Sheep and now in Malaysia by Malik Streams. So, is this exclusively for Malaysians and Indians, or is this a planned world tour?”

Yuvan:

“Definitely no. “Yuvan 25” is planned to be a world tour. We have planned it and will be announcing it soon. And also, I want to celebrate my 25th anniversary with my fans. That is the whole point. I want my fans to enjoy this moment as well for me. All I can do is to sing for them.”

Maduran:

“Why two days of concerts in Malaysia? What would the difference be between the two days?”

Yuvan:

“The first day would be more of my melodic tracks. The second day would be more like a party night. The reason is that we want to give the fans a different experience.”

Questions by other media:

“Why are Simbu and Dhanush not attending the concert?”

Yuvan:

“We did not expect this to happen. Simbu is currently with his father, who is ill, so he could not make it. And as for Dhanush, he is currently in Los Angeles for his film promotion, The Gray Man. Unfortunately, we could not get flights from LA at the last minute. I would like to apologize to my fans for these unavoidable circumstances.”

Overall, “Yuvan 25” was an amazing lifetime experience for all his supporters. We would like to express our eternal gratitude to Malik Streams, who successfully brought the concert to us with well-planned event management.

1. Girl Power

Agni Announced their first line up artists, Pragathi Guruprasad and Our very own female rapper  Yunohoo. Personally, I am a very big fan of Pragathi. We attended Pragathi's Live In KL back in 2017 and we loved it! Seeing her back in Malaysia put joy on our faces and we can't wait to see her perform. Next is Yunohoo ( previously known as Rubba Bend ). Yunohoo is a great rapper but we have never seen her perform live. Bringing her to stage would be an amazing moment.

2.  The Titans

Dr Burn and MC Sai, the title says it all. Dr Burn recently gave two people's favourite hits, Azhagana Nyayiru and Magarantham. We really are hoping for a beautiful moment to be created by Dr Burn tomorrow night. MC Sai Has been constantly participating in every Agni Fest. We can see this man's growth over the years and his amazing capabilities to rap. Seeing him back this year is exciting.

3. New Skool Leaders

Karnan G Crack, DJ Mastermind, Kuruji, and Sahi Siva. Yes, we know Sahi Siva caught your eyes first.  We watched Sahi Siva performing last year and the audience loved him so much but he was a debut artist then. Now he's back after a mass hit of " Na Kudike Poren " song.  We can already sense where the audience will go crazy tomorrow. When you see DJ Mastermind name there, you know there's gonna be an epic spinning moment there. We are excited to watch that as well.

4. International Panel of Judges and Hosts

Jeya Raveendran from UK and Vicky B Trixx from Tamil Nadu. Watching both of them dance will give you a delightful feeling. They will be judging the intervarsity dance competition alongside our Malaysian judges. Moreover, Dayan Shan will also be hosting Agni Fest. Dayan Shan is known for his comical skits and his Bigg Boss was a hit on social media.  We are excited about what he has for us tomorrow.

SO YES! What are you waiting for? Head over to https://agnikl.com/ to purchase your tickets now and we will see you at Chin Woo Stadium on coming Saturday, 29th February 2020

Joker: The Most Human & Realistic Film To Ever Take Place In A Superhero Universe.

Think of every superhero movie that you have ever watched. Let it be Batman, Ironman, Captain America or Superman. In each of the film, the protagonist and the antagonist are always displayed to be larger than life. They may not be your ordinary guy next door. Most of them are either from a different world or posses some superhuman capabilities, strength or they may just be freaking genius. You know that you can never be them.

Even the Joker, well at least the versions of Joker in the past. Either the legendary Health Ledger’s version or the ever-iconic Jack Nicholson’s version of the Joker, they still seem larger than life or at least impossible it will be impossible for any one of us to turn out to be like those Joker.

This is what separates Joaquin Phoniex’s Joker compared to those in the past. Joaquin Phoniex’s Joker is by far the most relatable and human orientated Joker that has ever been presented on the larger screen, and perhaps therefore this Joker will go down in my books as the best Joker there is.

In the past films, The Joker is often presented as psychotic guy who has no senses or moral compass and has only one goal that is to torment Gotham and drive Batman to the edge of craziness. One who played this so well was of cause Heath Ledger. His version of Joker is one who is smart, cunning and always has a plan to force people to make the tough decision. He is perhaps the classiest version there ever was.

Then now under Todd Phillips direction, Joaquin Phoniex’s Joker is a version that takes place before he fully becomes The Joker. It is story about a man who is suffering from severe mental health illness transforming into becoming The Joker.

The movie starts with him putting on his clown make up (because he is employed in the clown business) and he subtly tears down on one cheek with somber sorrow music playing on the background. Almost immediately you will be drowning down towards his sorrow and pain.

Throughout the film, it continues to explore the pain of this man as he must deal with his mental health issues and how the society treats him or maybe how the society ignores him. The movie is set on a backdrop where Gotham is starting to be pollute with garbage as the garbage collecting society are on a strike. As the Gotham is being taken over by the filthy garbage, so is it is society being taken over by people with who are losing their moral compass.

Stuck in between this transition in Gotham is the Joker. As the society starts to behave more uncivilized, barbaric and less human, it pushes this man who in on the brink of depression and delusion into fully becoming The Joker.

The strength of the movie lies in how Todd Phillips captures and shows us the transition of Arthur Fleck into becoming The Joker. He shows takes us into the mind of The Joker inflict the pain he is going through onto us.

One of my favorite scenes in the movie is the scene where The Joker tells his mental health therapist that how she never listens to him and all he has is negative thoughts and another scene which reveals the relationship that he has with a woman who is his neighbor.

The movie is 2 hours long and although the movie is set on a slow pace, Todd Phillips takes his time to let us live through The Joker’s mind and allows us to experience his pain and transition into becoming The Joker.

If you didn’t hear terms like Gotham, Joker or Wayne, it is so easy to believe that this story could happen to anyone around us and not something that occurs in a superhero universe.

That is why, Joker is the most human & realistic film to ever take place in a superhero universe.

5 Elements of Retro Rahman 2.0

5 Elements of Retro Rahman 2.0

By Tharanie Rajendran

About a week ago, Boggler Blogger managed to get a chance to relive the magic of last year’s Retro Rahman, with MOJO Project’s 2019’s Retro Rahman 2.0, bigger and better. It has been a week, but the magic spread did not wear off even a little! Here we are counting down to the Top 5 magical moment from Mojo’s Retro Rahman 2.0.

1. Satyaprakash

This man stole my heart with Nallai Allai (Katru Veliyidai) and since then, his voice became my comfort zone. I can’t express what is it with his voice, it feels like I’m home every single time I listen to him. And to hear him singing live, up close and personal, the feeling was surreal.  Especially when he sang “Enna Solla Pogirai” and “Soniya”, I fell in love, once again. And that one time he managed to hit Udit Narayanan’s pitch for “Kadhalikkum Pennin” from Kadhalan that was a beautiful surprise!

2. Sadhana Sargam

I cannot imagine another perfect song for Retro Rahman to relive his golden era, the 90s with other than Konjum Mainakkaley from Kandukonden Kandukonden. And who is there better to sing it than Sadhan Sargam, who recorded this masterpiece under the legendary A.R.R.? Her voice, her grace, her presence, everything about Sadhana Sargam is a treat for the eyes, ears and soul.

3. A. R. Rahman

Call it being biased, but this show wouldn’t have happened without the Mozart of Madras and his love for music. A huge thank you for handpicking the songs to be presented and songs like Udhaya, Mullumathi and En Swasakatre made a comeback to my playlist, and haven’t stopped being on repeat since then!

4. Musical Battle of Minsara Kanna

Srinivas is downright my favourite male singer. And Harini, I think I already wrote a paragraph of my lady crush on her for Retro Rahman 2018. When both these legends perform a classic hit, IT WAS THE ABSOLUTELY MAJESTIC! It was breathtaking to hear this perfect rendition, especially live, on stage!

5. Musicians

Let’s all say it loud and clear once again. THANK YOU MOJO FOR NOT PROVIDING THESE AMAZING SINGERS WITH KARAOKE TRACKS! From Anil Srinivasan to Karthick Devaraj. They made the show what it is and whether its Kathick’s lady crush’s jokes or Anil’s unplugged session, it was a feast.
There are so much to love about these concert, but these are my most favourite 5 elements that made this event unique, for the second installation! Can’t wait to know what Mojo has for us for their upcoming event on November 2019. And to those who couldn’t join for this round, we will see you there!

Azhagaane Iravil- A Beautiful Love Journey By Ruvela

It has been a couple of months since I wrote something, and I can’t just express the happiness I am having right now to be back in front of my laptop and writing back again. I have been on a little hiatus from writing recently, but today I saw a music video which I thought I should pen down some thoughts and share it to you.

The Malaysian Tamil Music scene has really been blossoming in recent years. Especially the Hip Hop & Rap genre ever since Yogi B & Natchathra went big and today we have the likes of PU4LYF and Sri Rascool rocking the international scenes.

Equally at the same time, the more melodious genre has been winning more fans as days goes by. Music Directors like Shameshan Mani Maran, Ztish & Varmman Elangkovan has been winning plaudits from the public in their recent feature film music work.

Along this genre, today I came across a newly released music video titled “Azhagaane Iravil” which literally means A Beautiful Night. Written, composed and sang by Ruvela, Azhagaane Iravil also has music & beats by Shane Xtreme and violin by Varmman Elangkovan with visuals by Soma Kathan.

The music video is directed by Ruvela which stars himself along with Archana Ganesan and it is released by IBP Studios, who in the past did release the hit song titled “Pogiren” by Mugen Rao.

Many people knows Ruvela as a host and emcee while I myself know the man as an actor and singer through Ghora. It truly surprises me that Ruvela can also write lyrics, compose and direct too as you can see from this music video. That is a lot of talent for one man to have and I have to congratulate you for being a jack of all trades.

Now coming to the music video itself, what I like about it is how the portrayal of the relationship that was shown. The beautiful chemistry shared by Ruvela and Archana further elevates the love that the character shares in the story line. The music video starts off with Ruvela sharing through a video call to Archana on how she came into his life and made him a better and successful man and there is so much love between the characters during the dialogue exchange. But there is where darkness hits them. Couple of masked men break into her house and Ruvela rushes to her place.

From here on, the songs starts and the visuals shows the type of relationship which they have which is something any individual would love to have. It is a very mature and loving relationship which has lots of fun and kiddish moments too. Maturity and fun is such a powerful combination in a relationship and I appreciate the concept chosen by Ruvela.

Throughout the visuals, the songs goes on and the we reach the end whereby we learn the fate that has landed upon Archana. This part was really painful to watch yet so beautiful composed and captured by the team. Well done Azhaganee Iravil team. The climax was my favorite moment in the whole music video.

What also I loved is that in the space of 6 minutes, Ruvela manages to make me forget that something terrible has happened to Archana and brought to a very beautiful pleasant visual and story line only to come back to that dark moment. To achieve this type of journey in the viewers mind within a 7 minutes time frame is something I will applaud. Well done again.

Everyone who knows me knows that I am no expert in the Tamizh language, but I will leave you with this one line from the song which has made a real impact on me.

“Yen Piranthen, yena kettu kettu thedinen, Nee vanthathum, yen piravi payanum adainthathe”

Friends With Benefits- Worth The Risk?

By, Tharanie Rajendran

There has been many cinematic approach towards the idea of Friends with Benefits (FwB). My first encounter was the version starring Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis and I simply brushed it off labeling it the “American Way of Living” and when Mani Ratnam painted a way more artistic picture of FwB with OK Kanmani, I was like, “Wow, that’s brave for catering that to the Indian market” thinking that it doesn’t happen here, around me. 4 years later, having moved to a bustling city and experiencing life in the most rawest way possible, I was like “Huh, it DOES happen”.

Reality kicks in, whether you like it or not. And not every FwB story ends like how Will Gluck or Mani Ratnam portrayed it to be. Flash news, life is not a rom-com! And to all you people that are heading towards the idea of FwB in hopes that it will play out liked one of those rom-coms, take a seat. Let’s discuss this.

To those who are following Sukesh on IG (IG Handle: Boggler Blogger), he stirred this conversation and basically made me write this as we have strong opposing views on this matter. Although so many views poured his way, I’m so glad most perception on FwB are on my side (YAY! Tharanie 1- Sukesh 0).

Ok let me play out the cards here without prejudice. The best way FwB was put in the screen, at least for me, it was through How I Met Your Mother, Season 4, Episode 12- Benefits. Of course it takes, a different turn but the moral of the episode as storied by Ted Mosby, is that, “this could ruin your friendship” "and someone always winds up getting hurt”.

Because, let’s face it, we all know someone, could be your friend or your friend’s friend who tried this FwB and grew feelings and the other party possibly ended this occasional “meet up” and you’re forced to listen to the saga of badmouthing from the top to bottom, during your every thanni trip to Bangsar (been there, heard that).

There was an amazing argument about an anonymous IG follower who said:

“People get into FwB to avoid insecurities of their own, like the fear of commitment, lack of trust and the fear of losing the their loved one. So over a long period of time, the insecurities will only get worse resulting in switching partners and increased doubts and insecurities. Similar to any other addictive behaviour, this also revolved around denial and not facing one’s fears”.

Another contradicting view also came my way through the IG reply was when another anonymous person replied saying:

“FwB is a bold act. You are ready to feed your needs and capable enough to ignore your basic human feelings and perceptions of others. It is not just sex, that would be prostitution, but with FwB you need a connection, just that this agreement is pre-decided for a short term and nothing is to sustain. Of course the idea of changing sexual partners regularly comes with many risks, like STDs and whatever not. It’s risky too, with betrayals and heartbreaks.”

There was another two more opinion which I found it to be very well said as as the follows:

"It should happen without consideration. Don't think much. If the soul needs it, yes it is."

"No to FwB because I'm someone who respects any bond. And a bond, whatever it may be, has to be something that puts a smile on my face when I think about it someday. If one is befriending someone for benefits, he/she isn't a friend in the first place. I'm one who treasures my people, I don't wanna benefit out of them, If anything, all I want to give and receive is love, with due respect."

This 4 opinions were the real standout of me among the numerous responds that was received. which then brings me to the following questions that I have:

1.What leads to FwB? Is it his or her body type that find it “tap-able” or you like the person, as a person but you are not ready for anything serious. Because, the second category is the most I heard about.

2.Sex alone is actually the benefit? Or is it the in-between moments where it feels like you’re in a relationship is the actual benefit? Because it feels like it’s the beautiful "butterfly-in-your-stomach" period when the start of a relationship, but it is not. You are also free to do whatever you want after your time together. That’s the arrangement, right?

3.Where do you draw a line with finding a connection for a FwB partner and getting in a relationship because you see a potential “the one” in them? Because not every love story ends up as love-at-first-sight because it is love is just as complicated.

My question number 3 was also then answered by another anonymous person:
“I started my ‘date’ with my husband via a FwB relationship”

And so that is the proof of rom-com can actually happen. But that’s not always the case, is it? There also comes another questions for those who went from FwB to marriage. Is marriage the goal and does it actually promises a happily ever after? Or was it a decision made because there’s a pressure for “marriage” by the elders at home and you have a certain attachment with this person that you are casually seeing and decide to work it from there? That isn’t love, is it?

FwB, as per many of those who replied thought that it revolves purely around sexual desires and not a genuine intention. When some see it as a way to “release some steam” others see it as an opportunity to eventually build this into something more solid and long lasting. The cups are in front of you, and the choice will forever be yours. And one thing guaranteed, no judgement from us, from Boggler Blogger!

If you have a view that is different to what is written here, we would love to here it!

Biryani Man turns to Mr Family Man!

By, Tharanie Rajendran

We all know Praveen Kumar as the Biryani Man. Close enough to Batman being named after his weakness, Praveen was very well known for much-relatable weakness (at least for me) THE LOVE FOR BIRYANI!

I remember him linking veg briyani to the a far relative advising you, oh how accurate! Also, our common hate for Upma made me his fan. I'm so happy that this Kanchipuram "boy" (sort of) is going international with his new show and we swear we cannot be more excited to welcome Praveen Kumar to Malaysia for his new stand up-special "Mr Family Man" on 30th March 2019 at PJ Live Arts Centre!

This 37-year-old family man is all set to bring his real life experience from his wife and his cute little daughter on a full flashed 85-minutes show. To those who have watched his "36 Vayadhinile" he discusses a portion of his experience with his daughter, and I remember I was laughing like a retarded seal in my office cubicle (during lunch, don't judge me!).

“Much of it is from my personal experience. For instance, I will talk about what I did when a rat entered our kitchen or what happened when I took my wife for shopping. That will make it relatable to everyone,” said Praveen Kumar.

We can guarantee that this show is family friendly, as Praveen consciously avoids profanities and I genuinely believe that makes him one of his kind in this show biz. It has definitely granted Praveen with a signature brand that does not rely on creating a shock value, and positions him as a unique entertainer.

“I make sure that my shows are clean comedies. Adult jokes don’t excite me anymore. And since I want families to enjoy my shows, I steer clear of anything that can embarrass parents and children in each other’s company,” he says.

‘Mr. Family Man’ is a stand-up comedy show for the whole family to enjoy. Tickets are on sale online at https://familyman.peatix.com/ with tickets starting as low as RM 90. Praveen Kumar’s Mr. Family Man is presented by Selangor & Federal Territory Malayalee Association (SFTMA), organized by Phoenix PR, and sponsored by Shaiba Vision.

Detailed prices are as per below:

The 2018 Suki Awards- A Dedication To Malaysian Tamil Films

Like Boggler Blogger's Facebook page by clicking the link below for more post!

It’s that time of the year again and The Annual Suki Awards is back for it’s 3rd Edition. The Suki Awards is a small effort from my side to reflect on all the Tamil films that I watched in that year and come up with my own nominations for each category and its winner. However this year around I am going to dedicate it on just Malaysian Tamil Films that I have watched in 2018

In the 3rd Edition, there are going to be 8 categories. This year’s Suki Awards will see the following categories.

Best Supporting Actress
Best Supporting Actor
Best Song
Best Music Director
Best Director
Best Actress
Best Actor
Best Film

In total there were 8 Malaysian Tamil Films released in 2018 but I have only watch 7 of them. The one I missed was Neeyum Naanum thus I would not put Neeyum Naanum in any of the categories as it would be unfair to evaluate them without having watched them.

Below are the list of Malaysian Tamil Films I have watched in 2018

Now let’s kick start the event today with the very first category, The Best Supporting Actress. And the nominees are:

Sara Baskin in Ghora
Bagya Arivukarasu in Sughamaai Subbulakshmi
Hemaji in Thirudathey Papa Thirudathey

All three talented actress provided 3 very different type of performances and it was a though to pick up a winner. Sara was fantastic with her subtle evilness, Bagaya as the over possessive girlfriend and Hemaji as the cute naughty little sister you would want to have.

However a winner needs to be pick and the 2018 Suki Award Winner for Best Supporting Actress goes to Hemaji!!!!

Moving to next award, it is for The Best Supporting Actor. This was indeed a very tough category for me to pick my 3 nominees and a couple of actors who did give excellence performances had to be omitted out as there is only 3 nominees

The nominees for The Best Supporting Actor are:

Kuben Mahadevan In Sughamaai Subbulakshmi
Mugen Rao MGR In Ghora
Yuvaraj Krishnasamy in Thirudathey Papa Thirudathey

All 3 actors had huge and vital scope in their respective films and they all brought out various emotions out of their characters through out the film journey. However my winner for The Best Supporting Actor goes to Kuben Mahadevan for SSL.

The scene by the beach with Saresh after "Anni" passes away is the one that makes the difference for me thus Kuben wins it

It is time for some music and now we have the award for The Best Song award. 2018 was a great musical year and we were blessed with too many amazing songs. It was almost impossible to pick just 3 songs as the nominees. I had to hear back all the songs a countless number of times and here are the nominees of The Suki Awards Best Song:

Aasai Kerthanai from Sughamaai Subbulakshmi
Theeya Vazhiyile from Thirudathey Papa Thirudathey
Valikkirathey from Thirudathey Papa Thirudathey

I think this is the one category I am most indecisive about. Everytime I hear the songs, my favourite pick changes. I sometime feel it is a crime that Vedigundu Pasange songs doesn't make into the list. Yet a winner needs to be selected and for me it is Theeya Vazhiyile that wins the Best Song of the Suki Awards 2018. Enjoyed the heaviness of the song and the dark shade it gives plus the strong vocal.

Moving on now is time for The Best Music Director Award. The Best Song Award is given for the judgement of one song only while The Best Music Director Award is to be judge upon the completeness of the overall album and the BGM of the film.
The nominees are:

Vivek-Mervin for Vedigundu Pasange
Ztish for Thirudathey Papa Thirudathey
Shameshan Mani Maren & Neroshen  for Sughamaai Subbulakshmi

Once again, this was indeed a tough decision to make. Every music director gave something very special and memorable in these films but there can only be 1 winner. The 2018 Suki Awards for The Best Music Director goes to…… Shameshan Mani Maren & Neroshan for Sughamaai Subbulakshmi

Having done with the music portion of the awards, lets turn our attention back to the film side of the awards. Next up is the best director award.  Ant the nominees are:

Karthik Shamalan for Sughamaai Subbulakshmi
Devendran Arunasalam for Ghora
Dr. Vimala Perumal for Vedigundu Pasange

The winner of the 2017 Suki Awards for Best Director goes to Dr. Vimala Perumal. Completing the Pasange trilogy was an amazing feat and having the film to breach the 1 million Ringgit Box Office Collection Mark was a real success. Enjoyed how clean the film was and surely Dr. Vimala Perumal is a worthy winner.

Now moving the main event of the award show. It is time for The Best Actress Award. 2018 has been a fantastic year as more films are being designed in a manner where the heroine has a vital scope to play in the film and have a say in the story. Now here is the nomination for The Best Actress Award.

Punitah Shanmugam  In Sughamaai Subbulakshmi
Yasmin Nadiah In Ghora
Sangeetha Krishnasamy In Vedigundu Pasange

It is great to see more films giving heroine proper scope and importance in a film and these actress have all pulled their weight and did justice to the roles given. Picking the winner in this category was  not a tough decision for me although the nominations were strong. The Winner of The 2018 Suki Award Best Actress goes to Punitah Shanmugam.

I was massively impressed by her performance in SSL and knew for a long time that this is going to be her year in the Suki Awards. Bold, strong and stunning was her performance and thus she is the winner

Into the final 2 awards of the show and now is time for the Best Actor Award. The nominees are.

Denes Kumar In Vedigundu Pasange
Saresh D'Seven  In Sughamaai Subbulakshmi
Kabil Ganesan In Thirudathey Papa Thirudathey

3 actors playing 3 different characters in 3 films which were unique in their own way. It wasn’t easy to compare one actor’s performance to the other. The 3 of them were truly amazing in the films they acted. And here it is, the winner of the final award as The Best Actor in The Suki Award goes to Saresh D'Seven for his brilliant performance in Sughamaai Subbulakshmi

Now it’s the main event and the final award. It's  time for the Best Film Award in the 3rd Annual Suki Awards. The quality of films this year has been excellent and here are my top 3 nominations:

Sughamaai Subbulakshmi
Thirudathey Papa Thirudathey
Sughamaai Subbulakshmi

I love a film takes me through a journey. I want to travel with the story and feel like one of the character. I should feel the pain and joy the characters throughout the film and when the film comes to end I would want to be able to reflect back at what had just happen and connect it to my life.

From that it was Sughamaai Subbulakshmi which allowed me to do so and thus it is The Winner of The 2018 Suki Awards 2018 Best Film.

Congratulations to all the winners of The 2018 Suki Awards. It is my great pleasure to do this and see you guys back again in The 2019 Suki Awards next year.

Here you go, an award for the winners :P
